Really? Compromises the safety? But then they sell it to someone else?
That doesn't make sense.

You can get the service history from a BMW dealer and put your fears to rest.

I would love to get my hands on any 997 GT3 or 997 Turbo for 25-40% less.

2007 997 GT3 or Turbo of ~$90k at 30% less = $63k

Please find me one and I will buy it on the spot and pay you a decent commission!

You do understand the difference between retail and wholesale don't you?

You list these prices and every Tom Dick and Harry thinks they can go into a dealer lot and pick up an above average M5 for $43K. It ain't happening. They list at $49-54K and sell for $46-49M.

A buyback on a retail basis (i.e. not going to dealer auction) should bring high $30's to $41K. I don't think this guy is that far off.

Guys, thank you for all the comments and inputs. I have lowered my asking price to $39,750. I am hoping to get into either a 996 GT3 or a 997GT3 to tie me over until hopefully I will get delivery of the new GT3 RS around March of 2010.

Didn't this car used to have an exhaust back in the day? There was this Silverstone M5 back in the day with a crazy, loud exhaust which always used to drive past my house, and I know every car here in Calabasas.

To the OP, what gate do you live in? Nice to find someone else who lives in this beautiful place.

That doesn't make sense.

The manufacturer would fix it or scrap the car. However, they don't buy back cars with minor problems like a squeaky steering column. If you don't have experience with the lemon law and buybacks, then I certainly hope you never do - it's a brutal process.

You can get the service history from a BMW dealer and put your fears to rest.

As could the seller, and ease the minds of any prospective buyers, instead of taking his word that it was just a minor issue.

So, are you interested in the guy's car or just playing investigative reporter?

Who knows? maybe I am, maybe I'm not. Don't see how that should be of any concern to you, though, unless you're the seller.

Hi Alex,

Good to know that you live in Calabasas too. I live in Mountain View Estates by Mureau Road. I have frequently seen other silverstone M5's in the area too but the loud exhaust is not me. I thought about doing it, but decided not to since I do not need extra attention from the officers that always seem to hang around here. Do you go to the VCR? I am there for about 30 minutes every Sunday morning after my drive. Give me a call (818)331-0084. Maybe we can go for a drive together.

Leftlane,

I do not know whether your knowledge about buyback cars are first hand, but here is my first hand experience with the Lemon Law:

I bought one of the first 2002 BMW 745i's when they first came out and the idrive kept giving me problems probably because BMW had not fully sorted out the complex software involved. I would lose my favorite radio station settings, the system would convert to Metric settings, the navi would sometimes not work and so on.

Even though it was fairly minor, it really bothered me and I kept taking it in to the dealer like 5 or 6 times. It did help that I only live a couple of miles away from the local dealership. They kept reloading the software but the problem was never fixed and I finally got fed up and asked BMW nicely to take the car back.

BMW did not do a courtesy buyback since they felt that it was not a "major" problem. I hired an attorney that specializes in lemon law cases, and after filing a law suit he was able to force BMW to buy the car back.

Once BMW finally had sorted out their software, that car would of been perfectly fine. There was nothing wrong mechanically, and the car was never unsafe at any time.

I try to make it out to VCR every last Sunday of the month, but sometimes I am out of town. I will defiantly be giving you a call next time I go. I love MV, my ex. used to live on New Castle. Anyways, do you plan on getting a new Porsche?

What a coincidence, I live on Newcastle too, near Wellsley. I am first on the list for the new GT3 RS at a dealer that I deal with. Hopefully, I will get the car around March of next year.

May I ask how long you've owned the car (assuming you're the 2nd owner) and if you've had to take the car in for any out of the ordinary services?

Thanks in advance.

I believe I am the third owner and I have had the car since February of this year. I took the car in for a scheduled oil change and clutch roughness which resulted in the dealer replacing the clutch and flywheel.
