If you have ever dreamed of owning a brand new Series IIA that has been tastefully updated to include additional power, style and comfort – yet still retains its rugged looks and functionality – then look no further. This one has all of the goodies to help complement and enhance the utilitarian styling and ride of this beautifully restored Series Land Rover.

The late 2a Series Land Rovers are regarded as one of the most iconic and sought after vehicles of the 20th Century. In fact, after their launch in 1948, Series Land Rovers became so popular with national military’s, researchers and explorers, largely because their reliability, simplicity and ability to reach remote areas throughout the world. As a result, they have been described as the first vehicle to have been seen by 1/3 of the earth’s population.

This Land Rover has recently undergone a multi-year, no-expense spared, nut and bolt frame-off restoration. Everything on the truck has either been rebuilt, upgraded or replaced with NOS parts. The cost of the restoration alone was upwards of $40,000, not to mention the $30,000+ in parts/ receipts. All documentation outlining parts and labor obviously go with the truck. The information below highlights only a fraction of the work completed on this amazing vehicle but the photos clearly speak to the attention to detail and the quality of the restoration.

Engine/ Chassis/ Running Gear
The Series has a brand new Turner HP motor and unleaded, high compression head – fed by a Weber 2 barrel carburetor, and allowed to breathe freely through the pierce manifold and NRP stainless exhaust. The truck sits atop a new Marshland galvanized frame and rides on Old Man Emu shocks and Rocky Mountain parabolic springs. The truck has 5 BFG Mud-Terrain tires on 16 inch steel wheels. The transmission and transfer case have both been rebuilt and re-sealed and the front and rear axles/ drive train are Genuine NOS replacement units, as are the steering components and the entire brake system. The vehicle also has a new fuel tank, pump and plumbing. The IIa also has a new original style wiring harness to power all of the correct, updated electrical components listed below.

Body/ Paint
The paint is in superb condition, showing no wear as it has been driven less than 500 miles since undergoing a complete restoration. The underside of the body, the wheel wells, floors, and other potential high wear areas have all been painted with color match “bed liner” for added durability and to ensure the vehicle will remain in pristine condition for years/ miles to come. The body cappings, windshield frame and all other galvanized parts have all been (hot dipped) re-galvanized and are also in remarkable shape. The vehicle also sports a beautifully restored full hard top with alpine windows, vents and a tropical sunshade. All the windows have new rubber gaskets/ weather-stripping. The driver and passenger windows are the Defender-style windows which move forward and backwards independently as opposed to the original style uppers. The vehicle has a deluxe bonnet with spare tire carrier. The seat box and the firewall were both redone at East Coast Rover - see link http://www.eastcoastrover.com/144.html - where they are rebuilt to last a lifetime. The vehicle also has all new locking door handles, and all new lighting (headlights, side markers, brake lights, rear directionals and reverse light – the original chrome license plate light was replaced with new internals and retrofitted into the original chrome housing.

Interior
The vehicle is fitted with Trakkers Hi-Back Seats for comfort – the original low back seats come with the vehicle. This Series also has inertia seatbelts for both of the front seats and comes with Rovers North door panels and a black vinyl wrapped center console. The vehicle also has the original side facing, rear folding bench seats, however they have not been restored and refitted but will be included in the sale. The truck has the powerful (20,000 BTU) Rovers North Mt Mansfield heater with distribution box to keep your feet warm and windshield defrosted – at the same time even! The headliner was replaced at Badger Coachworks and looks amazing. The interior is finished with all new rubber shift boots, shift ***** and all the correct labels/ decals for the vehicle. The instrument panels have all been restored and house fully functional original gauges.

To summarize what you have just read, this is essentially a brand new vehicle. EVERYTHING has been gone through, repaired to like new condition or replaced with new, or better than new components. After having the head liner replaced at Badger Coachworks, a renowned Land Rover interior shop in Massachusetts, I drove the vehicle home to Albany, NY via I-90 (approx 225 mi) and it performed flawlessly. It had no problems keeping up with highway traffic.

I often refer to the truck as “OEM+” as I believe this is perhaps the way Land Rover would have produced these vehicles if cost considerations were not something with which automobile manufacturers concerned themselves.
