First time Porsche buyer looking for a 2009 or newer Carrera S or 4S, and advice

Hi everyone, this is my first post and hopefully the first of many !

I am looking to purchase a 2009 or newer Porsche Carrera 911 S ( or 4S)

Here are the must have specs I am looking for:

1. 2009 or newer
2. Black on black
3. Manual transmission
4. Coupe
5. Under 50,000 miles
6. California car with not too many previous owners
Navigation? - huge plus !
CPO or warranty? even better !
(my timeframe for purchase is within a month or so, I'm really just waiting to find the right one and then I'm ready to buy)

I am located in San Jose, CA. and I have contacted most of the dealers within a 100 mile radius but haven't found anything yet. I would like to find one that is fairly local - meaning that I can go see it in person within an hour or so drive.

The second part of my post is...Does anyone have any advice on things I should look for with these specific cars? I don't know a great deal about Porsche and this would be my first one ever. I have tried to do my research but I'm sure there are more facts and info that owners on forums have and can share. For example, one question I keep asking myself: Is there any benefit to buying a used one from a Porsche dealership even if it's not CPO or warranty?

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read !

If your budget allows, spring for a GTS or GTS4. Both versions are wide body cars and come with most of the options you would want, including PDK or 6spd manual. Make sure to look for adaptive sports seats too.

Hows it going? I have a black/black 2012 C4S, one of the last 997's built. It currently has 25k and is a fresh CPO. The paint is like new with a full frontal clear bra as well. I am located in NH though. I would consider selling it in order to but a nice air cooled car

As with all Porsche's, everything is an option. I would go over to Renntech.org and look at the build sheet for this year/model. Make sure that you know which options are a "must have". And don't rush. It took me 3 months to find the "right" car. Don't be afraid to purchase a CPO car from an out of state Porsche dealer. I found mine in Rhode Island and had it shipped to CA. Many of these cars were traded back to the original selling dealer and have a full history. I was even able to speak to the prior owner. Good luck!

If you can, go for the 2011. The 2008 and prior were still prone to IMS issues. The 2009 and forward have the newer 9A1 engine - no IMS issues to ever worry about.

I got the 2011 S today ! Very excited and will learn things as I go. I'm going to take it to the porsche dealership tomorrow for a full inspection since it's still under warranty( in case anything needs to be fixed). I also plan to get an extended warranty. Anyone have any thoughts?

I would consider taking it to a well qualified third party for the inspection. My experience has been that when you take a car to the dealer, and it is still under warranty, the inspection is not as thorough as it could be.

I went to the dealership today and apparently they don't do pre purchase inspections anymore because porsche corporate got sued. (At least that's what they told me)

I was able to get the service history for my car by showing them my new temporarily registration. The history looks ok. Next up is the 40k mile service and they told me that it will cost around $1,240.

Today is my second day driving the cars and it's awesome ! I tried sport mode today and I like the exhaust sound much more. Is there any downside to driving with sport mode on ALL the time?
