Yes, it would have been converted to RWD. Quite a few 996 guys do this.
MrWhite, any pictures of the fender rolling issues? Thanks.
Re fender rolling, any dealer connected with a good bodyshop could take care of this. I never bothered to take care of this since I was making it into a track car and it's not visible until you stick your head in by the wheel to clean them.
It's a worry free car and it's a fast car. It's not cosmetically perfect, as I have advertised, which is why it's so cheap for what it is mechanically. It runs like a beast and has all the relevant upgrades for a 996TT that are not so much taste related (like turbo choice, huge intercoolers and exhaust are more a personal choice).
The stuff for reliability and the optimal driving experience and usability is "must have" to bring the joy out of a 996TT, such as GT2 clutch conversion, 997 shifter, adjustable swaybars that give beautiful balance under attack, RWD conversion with Carbonetic silent diff and GT3 toe links for directional stability under full power and braking, upgraded diverter valves to last any kind of tune, clutch pressure late to not slip under big boost, motorsport fuel pressure regulator to have fuel at high rpm etc). Without those mods the car is not near its potential in feel or performance and not ready for big power or track.
Anyone looking for pristine looking but with soggy shifter and the weird expensive TT-clutch assist system that always breaks/leaks and makes you seems like a 16 year old learning to drive a manual for the first time, wrong camber settings, squishy rear end and AWD oversteer-and-understeer-changing-in-a-single-turn-fest, this is not the car for those buyers.
Picture of the car coming out from a PPI at McKenna, Dec 30, 2014.
Rev ranges:
Range 1: 46598 = appr 128 sec (6750 - 7250 rpm), last time at 2332.7 h
Range 2: 1740 = appr 4.8 sec (>7250 rpm), last time at 2332.7 h
Current run time 2363.9 h. That means those rpm ranges were hit about 900 miles ago which is the last time I took a drive in the canyons and outran a motorcycle from a stop light on the way there. My rev-limiter on this custom tune is set to start cutting ignition softly at 7000 up to 7300 rpm so the occasional full power run through the whole rpm range or hanging at top rpm for a spell between two connected turns will update that counter on every inspired drive.
Hello Mr.White. If your 996tt is still available, would you call me. I couldn't find a Phone # on the first post.
