Very cool. You might want to list the full details on options as well as original msrp. glws.

If he lists original MSRP people will realize he's asking way more

Care to explain why you're selling and what your thoughts are on the GT4? I may be in the market for one.

Its a super car.... best bang for the buck of a new car sub $150-200k

I'm getting another white GT4 with carbon buckets in Q1 2016...not going to drive the yellow one alot during the holiday season so thought it would make a nice Xmas present for someone

Thats only true only in a world where the Corvette Z06/Z07, Nissan GTR Nismo and Viper ACR don't exist.

GT4 is a great car nevertheless

The OP is right on the money with the sales tax rate of 8.75 % in the Bay Area added to his total purchase price.

Of course the buyer would be paying the tax indirectly twice. If I wanted the Race Yellow GT4, I would negotiate on the sales tax he paid.

Is the sales tax not offset in CA on new cars? i.e. if you trade/sell a car do you not get the tax credit back against your new vehicle? In texas if you trade a vehicle worth 100k and buy a 120k car you only pay taxes on that 20k as you already paid tax on the 100k

No. In the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia you pay tax on the sales price no matter what you do, trade in or not.

So let me get this straight, in Kalifornia - I buy a 10$ car, I pay tax on that 10$ for a 1$ - I sell that car for 10$, and buy another 10$ car, effectively a ZERO$ transaction and pay on the 10$ again so now I have paid 2$ in tax on the same 10$ ?? How is that even legal.

You are correct. It is sales tax and they figure that anytime a sale is made you pay tax on that sale.

Now the way you can also help in that scenario if you are trading in a car. You get the dealer to really deal down the new car you are buying and take a beating on your car you are trading in (whatever that delta is that you negotiated), you just move the new one down the same as the trade in. Again you pay tax on the sale and get zero credit on the trade in. Net you will pay less tax.

Yeah... fundamentally I disagree, it's a tax on a dollar, or at least that's how tax is defined federally and taxing the same dollar is supposed to be illegal lol. Can you write off your sales tax against your state income tax?
