Searching for a 2014/15 Cayman S

Originally I had my eye on a pre-owned 911 carrera, but the more research I've been doing really has me 95% sold on either a '14 or '15 Cayman S given the mid-engine setup and close performance numbers, not to mention the value proposition. I'd like to stay under $60k, if possible.

This Cayman S checks all the boxes in terms of options I'm looking for, but I'm a bit leery about the carfax report given that the car was sold at auction and has been in for service 3 times recently for computer programming. I typically dismiss Carfax reports since they can be easily fudged if someone is motivated enough, but an issue 3 times over screams "nightmare" in my book.

Am I crazy to be hesitant about the Carfax?

It certainly gets my attention. The good news is that you would have another year + of factory warranty left. The bad news is that it is not being sold by a Porsche dealer so not eligible for CPO - which I would want given the work that has been done. If the computer has to be replaced out of warranty, it is a pretty expensive part.

If you proceed, you should definitely have a pre purchase inspection done with special attention on the computer. But I would guess that there are plenty of 2014-2015's coming off lease that there should be other options besides this one. If it was me, I would keep looking.

I've had an eye on the same car and there must be a reason it's been sitting so long...similarly equipped cars seem to usually sell in the $60-62k range.
