until 1-2 year ago there where quite a few for sale in germany for around 750-850 , I do not understand why they jumped so high

Manhattan Motorcars has a couple, but I'm sure you've looked at them if you live in NY. One cheaper 08 with 11k miles, and that great looking black SS that's at their NYIAS display right now for $3M.
