Is there any way to cap the torque applied? (Sorry, I know nothing about these.) I'm afraid that I'll over-torque my lug nuts. Thanks.

The manual says: VARIABLE SPEED This tool has variable speed switch that delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure. Speed is controlled by the amount of switch trigger depression.

However, I never use an impact wrench to put the nuts back on. I always do that manually. I use it only to remove the nuts. Some use it both ways, but, like you, I'm not comfortable doing so.
