These leather covered wheels (option XPA) are so much better than the standard sport wheel. Anyone with the plastic-feeling standard sport wheel should seriously consider this upgrade. The wheel (without airbag) costs over $1300 from Porsche. GLWS.

I can't find the photo I took of my standard sport wheel along side the XPA wheel I purchased a few years ago. I put a piece of masking tape around the rim of the leather wheel at the 12 o'clock position, then put the same piece on the standard sport wheel. There was a gap of approximately 1/4 inch on the standard wheel. So the thickness of the rim isn't that much different, but a little bit means a lot (that's what she said). To me, it was the feel of the leather that made such an improvement over the standard wheel, and the added thickness just made it that much better (that's what.....).

I finally found the photo I took of my XPA sport wheel compared to my standard sport wheel. (Standard wheel is on the right, and the tape ends met on the standard wheel.) This may help see the difference in thickness.

It is likely different for each color. Just call your dealer and they can find the number for an XPA option wheel in any of the available colors (mine was stone gray and I purchased it from Sunset Porsche).
