I am very sad to part with this, but the old girl needs to raise some money in to upgrade her engine.
This is a close second favorite upgrade to my carbon fiber steering wheel. Along with better wheels and suspension this is one of my favorite upgrades on my 1999 996. The shift **** is much fatter and sturdier than stock. It is much heavier than stock and feels more solid in your hand. I’m also hooked to carbon fiber. This is a must have if you are too (or just want a little more bling).
My car’s interior is metropole blue. The black wheel leather works fine with that color, and I am guessing it would work well with other interior colors as well.
Installation is very simple if you have some muscle. Assuming you have a stock shifter, simply unclip the leather boot from the center console (gently pry up from underneath using a butter knife wrapped in a t-shirt). Then just grab the **** with both hands and pull up. It takes some strength, and be sure not to bonk yourself in the head. The new **** slides over the shift lever. Then it secures with the allen bolt. Then clip the leather boot and frame into the center console.
According to PET, the shift **** frame P/N 99655265501 will fit any 6 speed manual Boxster, 996, 996 Turbo, or 996 GT3 from 1997-2004. Please consult Porsche documentation for fitment information if you are not sure.
