I used this cable & software on my 997. It was also used on another 997. Therefore, as you can see in the attached pic, there are two VINs stored on the cable. It will only accept one more VIN and then will not work on any additional vehicles.

Everything operates perfectly. Software is version 5.0.3.0. It's a 2nd generation cable, meaning it will also work with the newer version 6 software.
