VA997 is infamous around these parts
Is it missing the black mounting bracket that attaches to the underside of the seat? I don't see it pictured.

It's the piece in step 2 of the instructions (PDF link above).

No, it's just an older version from my understanding.

So how do you attach it to the seats without the mounting bracket. What do the posts and screws (pictured laying to the right) attach to? I don’t see how it would attach without the bracket, but perhaps you can let us know. Thanks!

It attaches to the seat base with the screws shown.

VA997, I think I can clarify. If you read the instructions... and locate the fourth installation photo, you will see four factory holes that are machined into the seat. The ends of the bolts get screwed into these holes with or without a bracket.... Click on this link and then click on installation instructions:

As I mentioned, this is an earlier version which did not come with a bracket. I hope this clears up any confusion.

This would make sense if the factory holes are threaded. To me they appear to be "punch out" holes," which means there is nothing for your screws to thread into (hence the need for the bracket). Can you 100% confirm that you had it mounted into threaded holes in the seat without the bracket? If so, I may be interested.
