2012 Nav retrofit
Hmmm... too much going on computer-wise to do an easy swap is my guess. Hard to really know for sure without trying it, yet am pretty sure it won't be plug-n-play without at least some VAG-COM magic... and even with that...
Farris, i have a feeling the problems of trying to upgrade from the older system to the newer one may be:
1. Different physical connection on the rear of unit due to it being a newer generation.
2. Thus different wire loom (fyi, we can't uprade to the Naim audio system due to internal wire loom differences).
3. Different coding needed on the car's 'core' computer system for everything to integrate (AC control, NAV-to-multi-screens, TPS system, alarm system control, etc).
Have a feeling that the Bentley, like the modern Audi, Mercedes, etc head unit does far more than just 'normal stuff' like older/simpler cars where we car audio installers simply bought a Scosche wire harness and said harness did the wiring 'magic' to make everything work 'plug n play'. As an example, i am at Scosche right now and if you look at the modern Audi connectors you can see all they can do is a plug to bare wire (this is for the A4 www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/692). For the Audi A8 Scosche offers nothing as the head unit is probably more akin to what we have in the Bentley, and thus even Scosche 'admits' it simply is not a viable option to try and offer an 'upgrade' at <cough>reasonable<cough> costs i assume. Again, just so very much happening within the head unit.
Now if we had a head unit that were (old school) two ***** with the left one being on/volume and the right **** being for the radio tuner with a string internally connected to the right tuning ****
