By the way, I have no idea what services have or have not been done to this car. No records and no one has any ideas.

Anyways, I found a guy who offered to do the following for $1200: Spark plug intake gasket air filters the intake needs to be removed to do it, oil change _ aka sparks, air filters, oil. Just wanted to ask the forum what they thought. Not that I have reason to doubt the guy, but who can fault anyone for doing due diligence. Thanks!

Do you think $1200 sound about right for air filters, sparks, and oil change?

If it was me, while he's in there you may as well have him do the spark wires too.

I dont know. I get all my own parts and then I just ask the shop for labour.

I have some air filter sets, $180 shipped

I paid ship price on my plugs from bentley aprox $160
$7 dollars for a gasket for intake manifold
$4 dollars for some clips
I did all my coil packs they cost around $350, you dont need to do this unless you catch a misfire,
oil filter is like 10-15 dollars from bentley,

That's a very good price, however make sure that he is familiar with your car. spark plugs are $500 at dealer,(installed) oil change $350, air filters $300, you also have to do cabin filters, coil packs only if needed,(call dealer and see if its been done as a recall on your car it if has not get dealership to do all work since all they can charge is for labor for plugs.Total labor for plugs is 1.5 hours.. they cant charge labor for filters since they have to do that anyway..

hmm, for just the oil change/yearly maintenance, he was going to charge $700. to add air filters change and sparks, he made it a total of $1200, adding $500 to the mix. Seems lopsided compared to the quoted figures

excuse my ignorance, but could you elaborate on what you refer to as "air filter sets"? If I get it correctly, there is 1 air filter (for engine) and 1 cabin air filter..?

Also, when you say you order from Bentley, how does that work? Do you ring up the local dealership's parts dept?

Finally, when you say that you "ask the shop for labour", are you referring to a local dealership service center or an indy guy?

Thanks!!

just so i can educate myself, can you elaborate as to why this ought to be done? How often is this typically done? What should the cost be in addition if I get this done (how intensive is it parts/labor-wise)?

Thanks

I only use indy guys or I do it myself, My indy guy charges me $100 cash for oil change with synthetic oil and filter included. for this price its not worth me getting dirty.

The filter set is the 2 air filters for the motor, not the cabin filters. The cabin filters you will see when you pop the hood, they are attached to the underside of the hood.

but whenever I do the engine oil change I take out the cabin filters and blow them out with compressed air, .

and yes Local dealer for parts, I use bentley northbrook,

no wires in the engine I think he was referring to the coilpacks. I was not sure if mine were done [recalled] early. I had some misfire codes when I scanned the engine with my software so I decided to do all the plugs and all the coils. 12 coils in total.

Yes, I meant coils. Apologies for any confusion.
