Removing Gear **** (I know.. many topics already)

Hi ,

What is the best tool to wedge between the gear **** and the shrud? Many topics mention plastic card. Does credit card work? If not, what is the best common household tool I could use?

I tried to use a screwdriver but was afraid to nick the surface.

can you get some scotch tape and wrap it round a knife ,if not anything plastic with a bit of substance to it,credit card is not strong enough. if you have strong fingers and clean surface i have done it by that way, grip the collar and push down,it is only a plsatic collar holds it. make sure gear shift is is neutral and moves across to the left.

nrick is infamous around these parts
I did mine with an old credit card, just ran it around the outside and pulled down. Fantastic bit of kit but there seems a lot around at the minute ?

Thanks nrick. I finally got the **** off!

I used a credit card to wedge in at the rear side of the **** since it has the largest gap. I slowly wiggle the card card, starting from the rear and slowly work around the ****.

Now, I need to figure out how to put it back.

just put the new one on (with the stick in the +/- manual position) push down, then pull the metal sheath up and it should click in.

Mine worked a treat!
