I tried this process about a dozen times without luck over a week's time. Then I noticed there are two trip buttons! On the first try using the other trip button it worked.
The trip button that worked is on the dash just to the right of the steering column (on a LHD car).
The trip button that worked is on the dash just to the right of the steering column (on a LHD car).
