Wake Up and Watch the Bentley Continental GT Speed Hit V Max

Vehicles like the Bentley Continental GT Speed are dream cars in more than one way. They have prices that most people can only afford in fantasies about winning the lottery. They also have top speeds the majority of drivers envision hitting in Dream Land.

Nice. I'd love a blast down that road.

Nice, yet straight lines are boring (or specially built speed loops). Even a Ford Mustang can go over 200 mph within a mile or two (anyone watching Jay Leno's new car show?). I'd be more interested in how well it can do lap times on two tracks, one being very tight twisties (i.e. Lime Rock Park, NHMS road course, etc) and the other being with long sweepers and some turns (i.e. Monza, Watkins Glen, etc). If they re-geared a Bentley tranny and flashed the engine it could probably go over 250mph in a straight line. But that would be bad PR news for the VW Group's Bugatti brand so we can't have that.

BTW, this weekend am moving to a place where very long straights with good condition roads are available. Might one day do a straight speed test in the right conditions for grins, but last time I did that in a safe condition speed limit free zone it got boring. Give me the twisties and let's see how good the brakes are time and again, then achieve spot-on apex and drive out as fast as possible.

It would be great for Bentley to stop the endless PR of straight ahead speed and let's see how well a stock Bentley does lap times on a variety of road courses over a period of 30 minute sessions. THAT would impress me to compare that over a McLaren, Ferrari, Ariel Atom, Lotus, Jaguar, etc.
