2000 bentley head gasket easy to diy?

I am putting off on buying a 2000 arnage because of the head gasket problem. I have done heads on old fords etc. Should I be able to diy this problem if it occurs? Also what would the price be. And is it going to happen every 10k miles or something? Or is it a fix once good for 50k miles type of thing? Thank you!

Hi Jeff,

If you search the forums (I think it was on RR forums), someone did a DIY head gasket job on their Arnage and it was quite tedious. They were able to do it through some trial and error.

I'm actually selling my '01 Arnage Red Label with 29k miles. The previous owner had the head gasket done as a preventative measure at the original dealership around 2010. I'll link my Hemmings ad on here, feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the car.

Recent work done in early July with about 300 miles on it consists of:

- Oil & filter change with new crush washers and gaskets
- Replaced the transmission oil
- Replaced engine drive belt
- Checked the condition of hoses, couplings, and all other wearable components, all of which were sound, due to the low milage. The only part that was replaced was the main hydraulic line in the "wear and tear" category, which was then filled with new fluid.
- Cooling system serviced, fluid was flushed
- Air filter and pollen filters replaced
- All mechanisms that were in need of lubrication were addressed (door mechanisms, clevis pins)
- 8 new NGK spark plugs
- New brake caliper seals and hoses at the time of the brake fluid replacement.
- New hood pistons as the old ones would not hold.

Is this the BMW motor , I have an Arnage T (6.7L) and have not heard of head gasket problems . I did disassemble down to the fuel rails for seals etc. when I bought it and at that point you are down to the head . Mine is an Arnage T so twin turbos w/ intercoolers so a bit more time and equipment to fiddle with but just nuts and bolts like any other engine . I have over 50K miles and have had no problems .

Typical costs for head gaskets seem to be £2-4 k

The secret seems to be regular coolant changes ( A bit more complicated than just putting coolant through the header tank)
Also warming the engine up before exercising the power is also recommended.
