jim:

The oil filter loosens up and will leak oil , first time was at the bentley Atlanta dealership last year, second was from auto repair in Ohio third time was about 2000 miles into the last oil change, mech said he tighten more than the foot ponds required by Bentley.
lost 2 1/2 quarts in about 20 miles of 60mph driving.
were starting to think it might be aluminum block threads.
not sure.

It might be worth having a look on the UK Rolls/Bentley forums.
Certainly sounds a potentially serious problem.

....you are probably right on your diagnosis...unless threads are messed up, it can't come loose...looks like someone overtightened at some time...that would strip threads...there are fixes for stipped threads...a good mechanic or machinist can address possible stripped threads...JimB

Agree, could be the engine's oil filter threading as coming loose multiple times is highly unusual.

Hello nnorth,

I am not sure as to the fitment of the oil filter on your Arnage, is it just a one piece screw on metal filter, or is it a filter cartridge that slides into a housing with a cap that screws on, if the latter then be sure that the o-ring on the upper section of the threaded cap is in place and in good condition, I had a serviceman leave the o-ring off of my W12 A8l and it leaked somewhat but did come loose, I caught it because of the leakage I spotted an oil spot on the ground....
