Hello W12 ...
Ok cool you need a Ben-Hur which you can order form any good audio shop or ebay unless you going to have the upgrade done by an audio shop.
First you need to put pen to paper wright down what you think you need, head unit what type what do want the head unit to do for you other than play music Lol,
you can go branded which you looking at around £600 to £1000 touch screen, sat-nav, dab radio & so on, the prices I've quoted are just an example, or you could go ebay & buy one from China do the job but not branded & no guarantee price around £100.
You would need a 7" screen head unit, go on-line have a look lots to choose from.
once you made a list then gets some quotes thats if your not doing the work yourself, if you are then materials only.
As for the design of the system its quite simple as your keeping the stock amp and most of the speakers. My suggestion would be replace the front door 8x6's to 6.5 & the rears to 5.0's, the PDC's won't be affected.
As for the RCA's use one set to the stock amp & the other to a new amp in the boot that way you will be able to control front & rear & balance from the head unit + have full surround sound, let's not go to deep into that right now.
Make a list of what you need from the new system, post it here & I'll design you a system with a full parts list from start to finish.
There are other guys on the forum who can also help you, I'm not the only one ...

Ok thats a simple upgrade nothing much complicated. If you take it to an audio shop I'm sure they can put together a package for you. I can design a system which I said I would do, give me a day or 2 I'll post it a total upgrade from head unit to amp.
Have you seen any head units, mind you they all about the same anyway, do you need dvd player Kenwood & JCV are the ones, Alpine don't do dvd not on the head unit. I have a different set up in the boot a seagate wireless hard drive that transmit movies & music to the head unit, I cant be doing with filling the glovebox with dvd's & cd's. This unit in the boot has 480 movies & around 5000 songs on it + the Apple Music & Spotify, what bliss ...
Anyway sure leave it with me sort it out.
TJ, Sam & British you guys can join me design this system be fun ...
When ordering your Ben HUR kit, do not go through Nav TV. They still have it for $2400. Places like Super Tweaks have it for $1700. Still a lot but besides building a car-puter like the others on here it is our only option. As soon as I get my bumper fixed I will be starting on my build. I replaced the radio already so Im moving to my next phase of changing all the speakers which should be delivered today. Hopefully I can remember to document as I go.
Let me scale back on Super Tweaks. Just read some of their reviews and it’s not looking good for them. Search for it on other sites as well. Nav-TV just might be the last resort.
ok teamjones 1962 look forward to your reply do i need nav tv
W12's Audio Upgrade 2019
The system is a simple upgrade nothing too complicated. For someone who's never done any wiring id ask for help, but can be achieved. I'll go through the entire system from head unit to boot.
1. 7" Head unit, ie Alpine, Kenwood JVC, & so on
2. Ben-Hur unit
3. 2 x RCA cables, from head unit to boot
4. Door speakers (front) replace the 8x6 for 6.5 component to do this will need speaker plates
5. Rear panel speakers, replace the 3" mids for 5.0 component
6. Rear camera (if needed)
7. Amp 4 channel with sub out
Remove the stock infotainment system at this point it's worth removing the stock CD & NAV units out the glovebox, this will also give you room to feed some cables.
Remove the over head panel & inset the new mic into the dummy see (My First Mod) thread.
If a DAB arial is required then feed the cable down passenger side to the rear screen, You guys in the US use a different source for radio.
The 2 RCA cables feed these from the head unit down the centre (no need to remove any panels) these can be tucked under the centre from the side.
If fitting a rear camera then the cable can also be fed from the head unit down the centre into the boot.
Remove the rear passenger side seats (top & bottom) feed the 1 RCA & camera cable through the large pass through from rear into the boot. Leave one of the RCA's under the seat, tape up the ends separately. This can be used when & if a sub is fitted.
A cable for the remote switching on the amp will also be fed from the head unit down the centre into the boot to the new amp.
Wire up the Ben-Hur including all the other cables, connect both RCA's one to the front side of the head unit, the other RCA that comes out of the head unit (rear) will be connected to the Ben-Hur.
Also connect the RCA on the sub out even tho you're not fitting a sub but if you do at a later date no need to remove the head unit.
Mount the amp to the rear wall of the boot (passenger side)
The new amp will drive the front of doors 6.5's & the rear 5.0's, the rest of the speakers will be driven by the stock amp, this way the PDC's for the front won't be affected & still maintain the original settings. the rear PDC's will need wiring up from the stock amp to each side, at the time of fitting the 5.0's, use the 3" mids & fit them next to the 5.0's, (plenty of room) or any other place you wish.
The rear PDC's will need to be wired from the stock plugs separately down each side. Follow the wiring colour codes from below.
Remove the stock amp plugs 2 off located behind the starter battery & remove the wires listed below:
Right Plug (23 pin)
Door Front Right, Pin 15 - Red & White +
Pin 18 - Brown & White -
Door Front Left, Pin 9 - Red & Purple -
Pin 12 - Brown & Purple +
Left Plug (24 pin)
Rear Panel Right , Pin 4 - White & Slate +
Pin 5 - Blue & Slate -
Rear Panel Left, Pin 7 - White & Purple +
Pin 8 - Blue & Purple -
These need to be wired to the new amp, front doors to channels 1 & 2 & rear panels to channels 3 & 4.
The main power feed to the amp can ether be taken from the stock amp or cabled to the AMG battery using 10mm cable. connect these one once the system is complete.
Remove both door cards & remove the 8x6 speakers & replace these with 6.5's installing the speaker plates first. the wiring colours are list below:
Right Door Speaker - Red & White +
Brown & White -
Left Door Speaker - Purple & Red +
Brown & Purple -
Remove the 2 side panels in the rear these will need some work, remove the 2 mid speakers & repack these with the 2 5.0's, with a dermal see my thread "Bentley GT 2006, Speaker wiring colour codes" shows how to cut out the panel.
Right Panel Speaker - Blue & Slate -
Slate & White +
Left Panel Speaker - Blue & Purple -
White & Purple +
There to modules on the passenger side behind the speaker, the smaller of the 2 can stay in place ( tie down with tie rap, the larger one will need to be moved to under the seat (use double sided tape) to fix the floor pan.
My advice is to solder the wires onto the speakers this way the connection will be solid, remove the plugs from the stock speakers & solder these to the new speakers & re-connect to the main speaker looms.
Before re-fitting & replacing everything in its place make sure all connections are as they should.
If fitting a rearview camera, the cable will need feeding down the side (AMG Battery side) to the front of the boot, when fitting the camera above the registration plate be sure to tape up the front & mark the hole before drilling, once mounted feed the cable from the camera into the boot & connect both cables to the connectors.
Connect the new amp to the AMG battery.
Switch on the system & setup the head unit & the new amp & test the PDC's.
I think thats the lot, if I've missed anything or anything is incorrect then I'm sure TJ, Sam & British will put me right or anyone ...
THE END
its to complicated just to read let alone try and install this id blow the car up to a pro its a walk in the park
keep you guys updated
Lol Now anybody that knows audio knows when he takes it in they are going to try to up sale the heck out of him! W12 know what you want before you go in. If unsure see what they have to say and even write it down but don’t commit to anything at that time. Wait till your sure you know what you want. I would even try a few shops without letting them know your shopping around. Rico gave you some good detailed info.
Keep in mind you might just want to change all 10 or 12 speakers in there just for piece of mind. If you go that route you will most likely be buying some 3 way components for the front and a set of 2 or 3 way for the rear. You can get a 8 channel amp, use 6 channels for the front active and use the crossovers that come with the rear components as rear fill. You have a few combinations to go with, it’s all up to how far do you want to go with it.
