Any clues why my CD player isn't?

09 Speed.

VCDS reports code 00857 004 no signal/communication.

It has leds on and loads cd's.

I will attempt to extract it and check the plug etc but just wondering if there's anythnig else I can check?

Well I appear to have fixed it. After finding the VAG extractor tool (happened to be one in the trim removal tool kit I bought recently) slotting it in and then finding I had one, not a pair and of course now not being able to take the one tool back out or remove the player, so making a second extractor tool by guesswork...

I squashed that iffy terminal pin back together and it seems to be working fine!
