Ross tech questions

Which Ross tech should I buy for my 2013 GTC? The website lists chassis that are supported by their hardware. I don't know what my chassis number is. Also, it looks like it's just a plug. Is the software included? Is there an annual fee or additional fee to upgrade. I am surprised how poor the website is designed. Thanks

Hello @Linescreamer ,
I had the HEX-CAN for many years, cost was $350 and had unlimited VIN's, that model is no longer available, depending on your use and number of VAG vehicles in the family or friends that you would help out by having this tool, will make the decision on which unit to purchase.

As to your questions,

1) Anyone of the items listed will work with your 2013 GTC

2) Yes, it is a plug in device that plugs into your OBD-ll port on the vehicle, I know that you know already, 😀, but again depending on which item you purchase makes the difference of how the other end makes connection.

3) Yes, the software is included, it is available for download on their site.

4) No, there is no annual fee.

5) Yes, there is a trade in upgrade allowance/fee program available, iirc.

The website isn't really that bad once you look around and figure it out, they care more about vehicle software than how their site looks ..

I recently purchased the VCDS & VCDS-Mobile with HEX-NET Pro for $600, it is the unlimited VIN license, and wireless, I can use it with my Toughbook laptop or via cellphone, when using the laptop the software is loaded in the laptop and no need for internet connection, when using the mobile version the software is web based, eventhough it is wireless, there may be the occasion that requires the USB cable to be plugged in at each end, that is for the HEX-NET, the HEX-V2 will always use the cable.

If this is strictly for you and your use only on the one VAG vehicle, then go for the HEX-V2 either 3 VIN at $199 or the 10 VIN at $299.

Just to note, the amount of VIN numbers only comes into play when trying to code ECU'S/Modules etc, you can scan as many VAG vehicles as you like, say if you went out looking to purchase a vehicle, you could scan as many as you want for faults and not have it count as a VIN.

Ross Tech Questions

I too have a 2013 GTC. If my independent shop does an oil change and doesn't have the Ross device, if I get one with the proper software,
should they be able to use it and, for example, reset the "service now" warning? Or for that matter could I reset something like that without
the need for further manuals or references?

Hello @tteplitzmd ,
Yes, with ROSS-TECH you can do it yourself, or have your indy do it for you.

I believe I have a PM from you, I will read it now.
