Bentley continental gt fans

Can anyone help with a bentley continental gt coong fans issue. Overheating when stationery. Fan 1 code and r7 jammed
Stripped down vehicle to explore fans.. My old fans are version sw1.5 and i bought some from a phaeton sw 2.0. As soon as i plug them in they go full speed with no codes. Have yo remove 2 50 amp fuse to stop. any help is great. Fuse board looks dry and drain holes are clean.

Hello @Mitchy1971 ,
I have the same with the 2.0 vs 1.5 sw, my original fans were noisy from the water damage, but they operated correctly, with the Phaeton fans, both fans would run 100% all the time, and they did not shut off, I was pulling the 50 amp fuses during my rebuild until I realized that they would shut off after 7 or 10 minutes, I don't remember if it is 7 or 10, but it is the exact same time frame every time I shut off the engine, but the right side fan (sitting in the vehicle) had a horrible vibration at full speed, so I pulled just the fuse for that fan, then the left side fan operated at normal speeds going up and down in speed as required, BUT, it still stays on for the extended run time after engine shutdown, which I kind of like as it is cooling the coolant and turbos, as the after run turbo cooling pumps are running also, BUT, that is what is killing my house battery...

Although I have been driving the vehicle daily without issue with only one fan, I will just bite the bullet and check out this yellow/brown wire for any issues, as multiple engine shutdowns daily is killing the house battery.

Hi Jonny

I have a similar issue. When I plugged in the phaeton fans without the ignition on they ran at full speed, so i unplug the fans to stop them. Can't tell if they work up to temp as car in bits at the moment..
The old fans dont work at all
Did you get a wiring diagram for the wires so i can check just in case

Shall I leave the phaeton fans on and risk it or order a new set of bentley ones dor £1500 complete with face panel

Biy of a knightmare to strip so don't fancy doing it again. 🙈🙈
Cheers Simon

@Mitchy1971 ,
I didn't strip the front end again to replace the fans after the installation of the engine, transmission, and front end, my originals spun so freely when they were out of the vehicle, that I thought they were good to go in, only after did I realize how noisy there were, I replaced them through the top as shown in my rebuild thread pictures at post number 256, I can get the wiring diagram later today.

To be clear, I left the shroud assembly mounted to the radiator support, and just changed out the fans/motors and the control modules.

Hi Johnny

Thank you for the reply i have Stripped my down to remove the fans and housing without draining the coolant. When i tested the phaeton fans again they ran for over 20 mins then i unplugged them. Possibly faulty fans and short circuit inside???

I have ordered new fans and should be here tomorrow fingers crossed 🤞. Can see the yellow and brown wire in thw 4 pin plug cant see the other end in the fuse board 🙈🙈🙈. Only got a snap on scanner that only reads the a8 and phaeton not designed for bentley.

Love the car but little gutted at moment

Cheers Simon

Simon,
Is the first picture you posted of the label on the original fans or the fans you purchased from a Phaeton? Would you mind sending pictures showing your original fan labels including the labels on the controllers? I have been trying to see if I can figure out what the OEM part numbers might be on these fans to see if these are available from somewhere besides the OEM.

Phaeton fans 👍

ive never seen insides of these controllers, but are there multilayer pcbs with some high-tech micro chips, or this is simple one layered plate with some standard electronic elementes?

your ori fans does not work but you know why? what is defective?

Mitchy1971 06-13-2023 02:44 PM

Hi. I have checked the fuses in the fuse board both 50amp are ok. I hace checked wiring on eacj fan plug and all wires jave continuity to the same pins apart from the yellow/brown wire which has no continuity to earth or live or even together on fan plugs.

I need to find where they go in the fuse board or ecu and which pin and location if anyone can help please. Photos are better.

Cheers Simon
