Hello everyone, I’m dropping by from the Audi side of things. I’m the owner of a pair of W12 A8s from each generation available in the US. This trim option is pretty rare in the US with about 1,000 total for the first generation and only 327 total for the second generation. The Phaeton with W12 is equally rare with around 500 total. Sadly, as most of you know, the W12 is retiring next year and in an attempt to keep the fire of the W12 alive as we head into the world of less interesting electric propulsion I am organizing a gathering of W12 owners. We’re getting together August 26-27 in Southern Indiana. We’ll meet for a little show and tell, a nice dinner, overnight stay and then a group cruise through the hills and lunch the following day.
I won’t link the site in this post as to not break any forum rules but I’ll send the details to anyone interested. It’s open to all W12 owners including the Phaeton, A8, CGT/Flying Spur and Bentayga (sorry V8/hybrid owners). Even the Bacalar and Batur if you happen to be so lucky! Registration is free and it’s shaping up to have a nice turnout. I hope to see you there! Feel free to message with any questions
Yes it’s very sad, basically the Batur is meant to be the final expression of the W12 and then the Speed Edition 12 is the swan song. Limited to 120 units for each body style (CGT, GTC, Flying Spur & Bentayga). They’re all numbered and come with a scale W12 engine model. I want one of those models badly.
The V8 and hybrid will stick around until the electric replacement of the Continental/Flying Spur/Bentayga comes closer to 2030. Apparently we’ll see the Mulsanne’s electric replacement in a couple years though. A two-door at first and then 4-door. Bentley says it will have 1,400hp which is exciting. Also Bentley was ‘heavily involved’ with co-developing the new platform with Audi so it will deliver the kind of characteristics that the Bentley flagship needs, one reason why Bentley didn’t create a Mulsanne successor on the Porsche MSB platform the Flying Spur uses.
Speaking to my local Bentley dealer apparently they cannot keep any W12s in stock, very high demand. It’s clear that emissions is the only reason for dropping the engine
