Trying to empty gas from the tank of an 04 CGT. Can't get syphon to work- does anyone know where the drain plug is located under the vehicle? Gas is 1.5+ years old, don't want to fire it up with it in there. Many thanks!
Hello @Bently2004G_T ,
There is no drain plug, and as you found, a siphon will not work, as the anti-siphon / anti-splash back apparatus is in place, see pictures.
As to the age of the fuel in the tank, 1.5 years should be nothing to worry about, my GT rebuild had 3/4 of a tank in it from sometime before Sandy, being October of 2012, I fired her up for the first time since Sandy on December 21st 2020, so the fuel was over 8 years old, I did pump some fuel into a glass jar for inspection, but prior to that, I had done the smell test at the cap, along with removing both connection plates on the top of the fuel tank in the trunk/boot to inspect the tank for any water or foreign matter, the tank was extremely clean, the strength of the fuel as to vapor/smell, was extremely strong, I was shocked, I test drove the vehicle a few times locally 30 miles or so, then in May of 2021, I drove it to the bank and fuel station as pictured below and filled the tank, never an issue with the old fuel, as my system was sealed up tight, fuel cap in place.
Wow, good to know! Its smells plenty potent, it has a little under a half tank in it. Thinking I will follow your logic here and just take a look at the tank and if all looks okay, and give it a try. Thanks for the advice! @Johnny Hotspur GT
If a longer downtime is expected, fuel stabilizer is highly recommended. It prevents fuel injectors, pump and other components from clogging up. I've used various brands on my boats, cars and bikes for several years and they've prevented all issues that used to be a recurring nuisance.
