My 2017 Continental GTC didn't come with a manual so excuse the ridiculous question.
Does the 2017 Bentley Continental GTC come with a media storage capability i.e. a hard drive, or was that an option?
I am being told by a dealer that those cars did come with a hard drive, which I find had to believe. How and where do others load music (CDs) in the vehicle, or do you rely on a music app such as Spotify, and if so where can I get the conversion kit for Car Apple Play?
Hello @warrickbl ,
As to your 2017 GTC, your head unit has a HDD (hard drive), as did all the units from 2012 forward, hence the many we have seen here in 6speed that have the HDD failure, therefore causing the head unit to freeze or go into continuous looping/rebooting..
As to loading the CD music into said HDD, I believe that you load a CD into the slot, and save it, then eject and insert the next CD to store, my GT head unit is a 2010, so I have the 6 disc changer in the glovebox, with no slot on the head unit, whereas you have a slot at the top of the Infotainment head unit, although some others here with the same 2nd GEN head unit in their 2012 to 2016's, whom I spoken to, have both the CD slot on the head unit, and the CD changer in the glovebox.
My Range Rover has this setup, known as the virtual CD changer, whereas I load one CD at a time to store to the hard drive, it holds up to 10.

Now I am really confused, the Dealer is saying no HDD and most on this forum are saying yes.
I suspect what may be happening is the dealer is trying to explain away why they can’t find the HDD in my recently purchased CPO vehicle. It might have been damaged/corrupted. I will re-engage with the dealer tomorrow.
Thanks again about the CD installation, here again the service department got it wrong. They indicated this car may not have had this as an option. I can’t wait for tomorrow.
There's also an SD card slot below the screen in addition to the CD slot at the top. My '16 also has the 6 CD changer. I don't use any of those and just listen to Sirius/XM with the lifetime subscription that I transferred from my '09. The older cars came with the lifetime sub and even though it's supposed to stay with the car I convinced Sirius/XM to transfer it when my car was lost to the flood.
BTW, @warrickbl ask the dealer to get you an Owner's Manual. They should've provided one at no charge when they sold you the car. The CPO Bentayga I bought last year didn't have the Owner's Manual or CTEK charger but I asked for and received both without cost.
Also, send an email with your VIN to: contactbentley@contact.bentleymotors.com and ask for a copy of the build sheet for your car. You'll typically hear back within 24 hours.
I just sent the email with the VIN to get the build report for the vehicle.
The term they use here is “As Is” despite being a CPO, if there are no floor mats, owners manual, hard drive and or glasses case while test driving then don’t ask for one after the deal. I’ll be send a polite email to Corporate soon.
@warrickbl ,
Now I am confused, in your first post, you said that the dealer said it "did" come with a hard drive, now you are saying the dealer is saying "no" hard drive, I assume you meant to say 'didn't' in your first comment.
From my understanding, the HDD is a standard working part inside the Infotainment head unit itself, not a stand alone add-on for music storage only, I have searched this before when members here have had the head unit looping in rebooting mode, I never found any add-on HDD.
Do you have a CD changer in your glovebox ?
Hello @BruceR ,
Being that you have the CD changer in your glovebox, along with the standard slot in the head unit, would you be so kind as to insert a CD into the Infotainment slot to see the options of saving said CD file ?
As I type this, doesn't a HDD choice show up on the screen at some point ?
@warrickbl ,
As I was thinking of in my previous post (#6), when you press the media button, does this menu show up as pictured below, therfore giving the optional selection of CD, SD card, HDD, MDI, or BT ?
I am not 100% on the media button bringing up that menu or screen, hopefully someone with this head unit can chime in.
Also curious, what are the left and right arrow buttons at the left side of the CD slot for, is that a single CD slot, or a multiple CD changer slot, hence the arrow buttons ?
In this video at the 46 second mark, you can see the options after pressing the media button, although the video is of a 2013 GTC, I would think that your 2017 would still have the same options, if not more, I did see another video that were the media button was pressed, and the message popped up stating "no media available", as the person making the video, had no BT active, no SD inserted, no CD inserted, nor I assume nothing loaded on the HDD.
@Johnny, you’re correct, I meant to say “the HDD didn’t come with the vehicle”. There’s no CD changer in the glovebox, but will try loading them/it into the single CD slot on the infotainment to see what happens.
The vehicle is still in service, but can confirm that the media button does bring up CD, SD Card, and MDI. I can’t remember if HDD was an option, but will check when my vehicle is returns. Thanks for the video.
I'll give these things a try later and report my results. Since I only listen to SiriusXM and haven't used CD's in close to 20 years I've never tried the options. Now I have to go find a CD!
OK boys, here are some photos of the screen when I inserted a CD into the top slot and some pages from the OM about the HDD. This is from a '16 CGT. Hope this helps!
Press EXTRAS Press HDD Capacity Result This describes the buttons. The L/R arrows to the left of the slot are for track selection. HDD loading instructions HDD loading instructions continued

Guess what Bruce. Finally spoke to the Bentley sales Manager, found him on LinkedIn, and mentioned how disappointed I was for the missing owners manual, battery charger and glasses case. He mentioned that he would secure all three and ship them to me. One less concern.
