How to remove the trim pieces around rear spoiler?

I am trying to get to the drain holes on my 2006 gt under the rear spoiler and came across these plastic covers. Any idea how to take these out for the maintenance? I don’t want to pry in the wrong place and break a clip.

Hello @Bigdog63 ,
Sorry, I thought that I had responded to this back then.

While I can not give specific instructions as to the removal of the two covers and center piece, I can only state to be gentle and take your time, there is no special instruction, just a tiny flathead screwdriver to pry off gently.

Pictures showing both sides of the 3 pieces, and clip points.

Johnny

@Bigdog63 ,
I will add, as @John Fiammetta pictured in his thread, he did not have these covers removed to feed the weed whack line through, I would think that feeding it up from the bottom of the bootlid allowed the line to come out the top easily.

Thanks Johnny. I got the covers off today. There are 4 points that the cover is attached. Two on each side. The rear side of the large cover is easily detached by gently pulling the cover sides outward towards the side of the vehicle. You will feel it detach. The front side of the cover is a little tricker. There is a free floating stud at the top of the inner arm that the cover clips over. I stick a small screwdriver in the slot in the top of the cover and gently rotated the screwdriver until the nib on the cover released from the stud. The stud is not attached to the lift arm so you need to be careful not to let the stud come off of the guide arm or it will fall into the well are under the spoiler. I found this out the hard way. It is also not magnetic so I could not get it with a magnet. I had to shake the trunk lid until the stud dropped out. Even after the cover was off I could not see the hole. I will try going from the discharge side upward and see what happens. I ended up closing the trunk and pouring water into the spoiler well and it ran freely onto the bumper so I am pretty sure the tube is clear.
Here is a picture of the cover with the slot circled in blue.

Here is the underside of the cover. The mass circled in blue is what the large part of the stud backs up against. The clip part that grabs onto the smaller end of the stud is circled in red.

One last picture of the trim on the edge of the trunk liner. I was seeing what it would take to remove this trim piece for future reference. This is the trim that gives access to the Trunk Latch mechanism. It is held on by 4 spring clips. They are pretty stout and need quite a bit of force to remove. Need to use a trim panel remover for the ones that are not close to the edge to prevent cracking the trim.

I may move on to the smoke test tomorrow.

Pete
