Hi all. I just purchased a 2008 Continental GTC and the gas switch on the driver's door doesn't work. I know that this has been answered before, but what is the prodcedure to get this to open? Thanks for helping me!
Hello @sprinter ,
To manually open the gas lid by hand, you have to push the white plunger with the cable attached to it, down, see attached picture.
As to the door switch not working, you should check the printed circuit board and connections for any corrosion, you may need to replace the board as pictured below.
Before replacing the board, or looking further, verify that you have either hit the unlock button on the door switch panel or the keyfob, as I had an issue that was annoying at times, in NJ we do not have self serve gas pumps, and on more the a few occasions the pump attendant would push the lid closed after I had just popped it to fill, he'd say sorry, but he and his coworkers would do the same on different occasions, then I would be stuck at the pump with the gas lid failing to release by pushing the button on the door, I would have to open the trunk and remove the carpet access panel for the starter battery to access the white plunger for the gas lid, it got to the point that I told the guys at this one particular shell station, not to touch the lid at all, that I would open it, the issue with them is that they are always talking with their Bluetooth earpiece and not paying attention, as they blindly reach for the lid, they pushed it closed, WELL, after enough frustration, I realized that if I locked the vehicle, then unlocked it and turned on the ignition, then off again, I could pop the gas lid again, I had even replaced the plunger thinking that it was weak, but the same scenario occurred, I haven't had any issues for quite some time, but that is mostly because I open the lid myself, along with removing the jewel cap and placing it in it's proper holding position, instead of the attendant letting it hang on the painted surface...
