Hi all. Not sure how much traffic there is out here for the gen 3 Continental GT but I just picked up a 2020 with the B&O sound system. it is okay but lacking in bottom end. I'd like to add a sub in the trunk. Access to power back there is easy as the battery is under the trunk mat so i just need to tap a speaker signal.
Where is the amp in this generation? I've found videos for the gen 2 when the battery and amp was in the side panels of the trunk. The 2020 doesn't appear to be like this. If the amp isn't in the trunk, does anyone know how to gain access to one of the speakers on the rear deck so that I could tap from there?
Okay, so for anyone else with an mk3 who stumbles on this, here's what I found.
The stock B&O sub is behind this grille here:
It actually does a pretty decent job - but only if you remove the ski pass thru entirely and leave a hole open to the trunk. I didn't want to do this so I supplemented with another sub.
Once you remove the back carpet panel by pulling out the spring clips you can easily access the existing sub and its wiring. Note, the panel is designed to be removed only after removing the side panels I think because there are some "tabs" that are glued on that go behind the side panels. I didn't realize this and ended up just popping the glue on the right tab and then, when I was pulling the panel out, I discovered another one on the left that I had to bend the panel to get free. So, I lost one tab on the right side but I don't think that will be any issue.
Then just tap the wires to the sub for my signal and wire up the other connections for power. Main + and - are easy as the battery is right there. A switched 12v was a bit more complex but there is a lighter style outlet in the trunk so I used that. I would have liked to tap into the wiring in the back but I could not get that side panel off to save my life so i fashioned a plug out of a usb adapter and used that for the "on" power to the sub.
And the final installation:
I can get great low end now even with the seatback cover in place. I do have the inner pass thru door cracked open.
