Battery replacement

I read something on this forum a few months ago regarding replacing both batteries in the trunk/boot. I can't find that thread now, and I have searched here and YouTube but I haven't found the proper procedure to go about removing and reinstalling the batteries to not hurt any electronics. My batteries aren't dead, but at least one of them is not performing good enough.

Is it better to replace both at the same time or to replace them one by one?

If someone can take a minute to write the steps in the correct order, I would truly appreciate it.

Thank you! Wow, that's a lot of strict rules.
