CD Player question

Does the CD player need any programming if you swap one out? Previous owner had removed the CD player and I bought a used one on EBay and it plays a CD fine, but will not switch to the next CD, nor will it move to the CD you select on the radio. The CD player will have a blinking red light corresponding to the CD selected, and it will show CD number and title list on info screen, but won't play. If I try and say select #3, it will just have a blinking red light on #3 at CD unit, but it won't play, if I eject #3 and then reload #3 it will play-same with all of the CDs 1-6. When it finishes a CD it also will not switch to next CD, same thing happens, next CD's light is blinking on CD Player and info shows correct #, but won't play.

i ran a VCDS scan and it shows a mechanical Failure-intermittent. Any ideas of what would cause this?
