Buying a 2019 Bentayga as a DD. Dumb move?
Hello all,
I’m looking at buying a 2019 Bentayga V8 and plan to daily drive it. From what I can tell, an extended warranty may not be available, but I’m fairly car-savvy and have a solid independent mechanic. With how much these have depreciated, I’m definitely tempted.
My thinking is that because it shares a platform with other Volkswagen Group SUVs, parts/common components might be easier to source.
So… is this a dumb move? Is the reliability really as bad as the depreciation suggests, or are these reasonably livable as a daily with proper maintenance?

I DD a 2015 Flying Spur. If your V12V is anything like my first-gen Vanquish, you'll find the Bentley comparatively bullet proof.
I moved to the Flying Spur from an Arnage under the same theory (VAG-based parts availability). It's been far better so far, but I'm only a few months in.

My wife has a 2020 Bentayga V8 that we bought about 3 years ago that she uses as a DD and there've been no issues (knock on wood!). That said, she only drives about 3000 miles/year doing errands around town. We bought it from the Bentley dealer who had just taken it back off a lease and it came with a one year warranty which we never had need for.
2009 Flying Spur Speed as a DD here, year around north of the 60°:th parallel. VAG parts bin has made the maintenance and repairs ridiculously cheap for the brand, even more so than my wife's RS6, and I've only stocked up on select specific items like ignition coils. Even some OEM parts and consumables are very reasonably priced at the dealership. A pleasant surprise after I budgeted for quite a bit more initially.
If you rely on outsourcing the work, make sure you're on a first-name basis with your mechanic as many independents see dollar signs when you show up in a Bentley.
That said, YMMV. Something expensive might go wrong even though these are really well-built cars.

I don't know what you should do, but I sold my 2018 because the Chinese factory that built the aluminum foil impact bar shut down and no new ones exist.
The dealer will not use used parts, and local body shops would not touch the car because Bentley will not supply any parts.
I expect more from a $311,500 car.

I have a friend that is on his 2nd one and is planning on ordering a new one when the new model is released. He and I were texting a couple weeks ago and he went on and on about how great the car is all around.Loves driving it and has had zero issues with either Bentayga.
I love the looks of them and have thought about trying one as a DD myself.
FWIW, YMMV.
