Bmw B7

I saw a BMW Alpina B7 parked in the garage at my office yesterday. What is it? Isn't Alpina is a factory sanctioned BMW tuner. Are they for sale in the US?

PS - I'm not a BMW guy, and know little about them.

yeah, they are for sale here in the USA, not all dealerships carry them. They are like what Brabus and Lorinser are to Mercedes-Benz

Cool, but awfully pricey, I think I'd rather be in a Quattroporte for the money.

Its based off the old 745 engine and has a centrifugal supercharger. I drove one three weeks ago on a test drive- slow and took a long time to get going. The lag was more than a turbo IMO but once it got going it did move- much like a train. In fact it starts in 2nd gear unless you use the manual shift buttons on the steering wheel. It did handle well for a big tank but that was about it for me. I did like the 21inch Alpina fan wheels and the security of a full warranty thru BMWUSA.
