Question RE:"Authorized Trade-In Event"

Hi guys,

Recently I've received a letter from a BMW dealership near my place and it says

"......
We desperately need to acquire several pre-owned 2002 BMWs by March 16, 2008 in order to fullfill special vehicle requests. You have been identified as an owner of one of these vehicles and our used car-car managers have been authorized to buy back your current vehicle at above-market prices.

We would like to exchange your 2002 BMW M-Series for any new or pre-owned BMW in stock. With factory incentives and high trade-in values, we feel confident that you can make this exchange with little or no money down and with a monthly payment at or possibly lower than you are paying now.

....."

Has anybody received this type of letter? Is it legitimate or is it just a ploy to get me down there and rip me off?

It's a ploy. I use to work for a Porsche dealership and we did the same thing. I swear it just pisses people off and cheapens the brand.

No it's legit, the market for 2002 BMWs is very strong and will only get stronger. Probably the most collectible of all the M series cars.

Yeah, every type of dealer pulls this one, no matter how common the car ("Hey, we desperately need more used Ford Focuses!"). They're just trying to get you down there to look at a new car.

I like the "fulfill a special vehicle requests" line. Yeah, somebody called them up and said :" I need a 2002!! No '03's or 04's !! Just 2002!!

As correctly stated above, this does really cheapen the brand.
