You are correct that tint is definitely needed especially in states like CA & TX. Keep your fingers crossed that you don't get hassled!
The problem I found is when you get ticketed you have to remove the tint before the ticket gets signed off. A major pain in the ***!
Maybe things have changed since I got popped 2 yrs ago in CA. Got hit for both! No plate and dark tint.
The GoMiniGo license plate bracket works well and available for the entire BMW line. You should check it out. Saw the motorized brackets and worried it would break or hit the ground.
