Thoughts-- 2008 535i as a daily?

Trading in my M35 soon, looking for another commuter car. Decent mpg a must, dont need the 550 or M5.

Any thoughts on the new V6 twin turbo in the 535i?

Edmunds gives it a glowing review, saying its as fast as the 550 (?) and gets 22 overall mpg.

Anyone here have one? Any issues with them?

Thanks!

I don't think you'll be disapointed. The engine is great fun and you could spring for the Dinan upgrade to get more power with no hassle. Sure other tuners can get you more, etc. etc. but it's just easy with the Dinan tune.

Go for the aero package for a little more sex if that's your thing and of course the sport package is nice too.

Best way to know though is to drive one.

Good luck.

Dinan upgrade would be amazing with the 535i. 380hp and 420tq for only an extra $2,000 plus warranty is still present.

Had one....

great to drive. Motor is super smooth, lots of up-stuff available for not a lot of $$, really good fuel economy, great AC. A slightly used one is the deal, at 10-14k off new, though not all the early cars had the paddle shifters that I like.

Its def a good choice get the Dinan upgrade and have a much faster car then a 550i and still get better gas mileage to boot.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but I'd like to clarify it is an INLINE 6, not a V6.

I don't mean to come off as rude, but this topic has been discussed at length already.

The 3.0 twin turbo motor is the best all around unit that BMW makes. Great power and torque, good MPG, fun, and easy to modify. It flat hauls in the 335i, and is very quick in the 535i. I've driven the 535i (with automatic) extensively, and at speed. It has enough power to get you in serious trouble, but is very civil and flexible. A well optioned 535i is one of the best daily drivers you can buy.

No problem. I did search 535i's and didnt come up with a whole lot, hence the new thread. Also wanted to see some real life experiences and if any trouble was popping up. Thanks for the info M5kid.

My friend has one as a daily driver and loves it! I don't think you will be disappointed at all. Good luck on your decision

I have a 335 as a daily driver and it is very civil under normal driving conditions. I have the 6AT and my only complaint is a very quick shift from 1st to 2nd in normal drive mode that hesitates ever so slightly. I added the SSTT for $600 and it eliminated it. You'll just need to decide between the i and the xi. I drove both and even though I live in New England, I did NOT get the AWD version. I simply did not like the handling through the twisties. The AWD version was not as planted and didn't hold the line through the turns as well as the RWD. Just make sure you drive them both and pick what you like better.

Enjoy!

Steve
