I'm going nuts not having anything to modify, and starting to look around for used M3's.

There are nice used examples of both, and I'm not overly concerned with pricing. Anyone have experience with both cars, and what is your opinion?

Examples -e36 M3
Looks & runs great, 2 Doors, Maintenance records available, Brand new tires, Non-smoker, Performance tires, Runs & drives great, Upgraded sound system, Very clean interior, Well maintained. Car has been a warm weather vehicle for the last five years and meticulously maintained. All records are available. Has always been BMW serviced, done so regularly at scheduled intervals. Incredibly reliable, wonderful vehicle. 118,000 miles. Must see, asking $10.5k

e46
2001 BMW M3 Coupe with 6-speed manual transmission for sale.

Exterior: Silver
Interior: Black leather
Mileage: ~68,000 miles
Full option including the sunroof.

It's in immaculate shape mechanically, inside and out. It's always been garaged, maintained well and all the service are up to date. There's not a thing wrong or imperfect about this car. It's as clean as it gets for a used car, looks like as it just came from the showroom. No door dings, dents, or scratches of any sort.

Exterior: Silver
Interior: Black leather
Mileage: ~68,000 miles

The Clean title in hand, ready to be signed over to the new lucky owner immediately upon sale. It's never been into an accident, and also have clean/clear carfax history available for you to look at. Priced SUPER CHEAP for a quick, no price haggle sale. $19000.

E46 M3 as a daily driver, its too much fun to just restrict it for two days of the week.

If you're just looking for something to drive on the weekends, I'd go ahead and get a sports car, not a sports coupe, with it's inherent compromises. Get a BMW Z3M, or a Porsche, an old Corvette even.

I'll drive it when it's nice outside or the weekends...leaning towards a coupe over a roadster because I'd like a little room. I was considering a Z3M but they come with a premium. So many cars, so many good deals out there.
