It seems like all the manufactures decreased production and not only that, residuals fell through the floor because there are so many used luxury and sports cars out there in the secondary market.

I came from a 996 turbo into a M5 and it wasn't bad, but going from a 10cyl beast to a 997 s would bore the crap out of you. There is just no excitement driving that car. No exhilaration. You can extend the lease of your M5 if you are interested.
Like you, I came from a 996TT (with a couple other cars sandwiched in between) to an E60M5. I had the M5 for a total of three months....hated the SMG, **** poor gas mileage, big car feel and the Idrive....I am now driving a 997S and couldn't be happier. Does it have the power of the M5? No...but it "feels" faster and is so much more fun to drive. So much more of a driver's car. I see much more M5's than I do 997TT's. If I had the cash and was looking for a $100K car, It'd be a 997TT in a heartbeat.

I found another e60 m5 with 10K miles very clean on swapalease.com. 1 year and 20K miles left on his lease @ $1050/month incl tax to hold me over until I figure out what car I really want.

Go with the 997 GT2. It's really fun. Why would you give something faster for something slower?

I don't know if this fits your style/taste but what about the new CTS-V? It is as fast or faster than a M5(depending on what magazine you read) and is refined, elegant etc. There are the black series Mercedes that are fast fun etc.

The new X6M is the FASTEST M on the market. Yes this means it is faster and more powerful the M5 and M6

What are you talking about? The car traps 110, it is slower than the M5,M6, and M3.

Just as an idea, why not completely trick out a lower costing high performance car
in the 60k to 70k range?

From what I understood the X6M IS FASTER than all the M's the dealer said it does 0-60 in 4 flat.

Thanks for the replies. The transmission is smg and has been repaired twice.. It still kicks like a mule at times and I can't wait to go back to a true 6 speed car.

I found a great deal on a low mileage m6 6 speed... I haven't looked at it yet in person and I can't find anything online about them.. How is the 6 speed on the m6? reliable? better? what is the "M" mode like on it?

The X5/X6M is 4.2-4.4 to 60
The M5, M3 and X5/X6m are so close in acceleration it depends on the driver with the M3 maybe being the slowest of all 3. I have sold BMW for over 5 years and the X5/X6m acceleration is BRUTAL for a car of its size. All of this for the price of a Porsche Cayenne GTS. What a deal the car really is.

I would get the e90 M3. Close to whay you have but smaller and more fun to drive. I would get the 6 speed manual over DCT because it is so much moer fun to drive with a clutch. The e90 M3 is a very hard car to beat IMO.
