What is causing my Friends 325 rear tires to wear to the threads on the inside edges.

Sounds like the car is way out of alignment.

Agreed, take it to a shop and have that checked out. Does the car pull in any direction?

I agree with the others, sounds like an alignment will clear things up. He may have too much negative camber.
