E60 M5 or a 911 turbo 996 Help me decide.
So as the title state's i am looking to make a decision between these two cars. I know they are both very different from eachother, However these are the two cars a in love with for many different reasons. I live in the boston area, and have no intentions of driving either in the winter or bad weather for that matter. I know this is the BMW forum but which would you choose. I am going to mod both and drive them more for fun rather then commute ( i live 2 miles from my business) Thanks --Rob
With mods the Turbo will be faster, but stock for stock the M5 will kill it.
If you will wait some time ESS will release a supercharger kit for the M5 which will make at least 600 HP (probably 700 as far as I remember RPi saying it will do).

I went from an E60 M5 to a 997.2 TT. While there are a lot of differences between the 996 and 997.2, the common difference between either of the TTs and the M5 is going to be handling. I loved my M5. But the TT is a lot more fun to drive, mostly because it handles the twisties so well, vs the big, heavy, high center of gravity meat wagon that is the M5.
Had them both and while the M5 is a phenominal car with an interior that will blow the 996tt away, the 996tt is a much more fun car to drive and IMO looks much better. The 996tt is very easily modded (for relatively cheap) to put a real *** whoopin on any M5.
Yeah, the M5 will NOT kill a 996TT, unless you are talking a roll from 120+.
If you are interested in either, I would get the TT. WAY more fun to drive and the mod potential is almost limitless. It has the best engine Porsche ever built. That platform has oodles of bang for buck.

I never said it will do it from a stop, but from a roll it will.
The best point to be made: mods are cheaper for the Porsche and yield better results.

Yeah, that was just a broad statement. You just said it will kill it, I took it as in everything, handling, acceleration, etc. The tt's are absolutely awesome cars. Bulletproof and spend a little money and you are talking HUGE power. Enough power where an m5 will be smelling your exhaust at any speed
looooooooool, gotta love people & their talk on the net...i didn't know a 4 door sedan will "kill" a porsche Turbo!
i Just sold my wife's E60 M5. It is a great car. I drove it more than her and she replaced it with a Porsche Cayenne. While at the dealership during the trade in, I test drove both a 997.1 GT3 and a 997 TT. Go the Porsche TT route. Like everyone said, the driving characteristics are completely different and "more fun" than the M5. But if you need a little bit of luxury with 4 doors AND some V10 performance...go the E60 M5 route.
There is no need to dismiss one car over the other based on a few criteria.
I found this video of both stock 996 & M6 (granted, the M5 will be a little slower, probably a tenth or two): link.
As far as I can see, the OP doesn't even bother to respond to the comments made here, so it looks like we're starting an argument and the one person that should care about it, doesn't give a ****. I fail to see why someone should even bother posting anymore.
Good point! Based on his sig it looks like he's made up his mind anyway.
