Need Some Buying Advice for a Friend

My friend is looking at buying a 2008 M5 with 32,000 miles. He knows that I've had a couple of 3 series cars in the past, so he contacted me and asked about any potential problems with that model. I told him I didn't know but could find out. Is anyone aware of any manufacturer problems (recalls, mechanical problems, etc) with that car?

Also, I told him that in a Porsche you can check the over-revs through the OBD-II port. Is that possible in a BMW as well? Thanks in advance for any insight you have.

Jeff
