First service in my 745

I just took my car in for its first service. I got a call from the tech saying that everything was fine, but that my tires are wearing slightly on the outside edge. He suggested that I should have an alignment... FOR $600!

I've NEVER so much as breathed hard on a curb or parking barrier. Is this BMW's way of getting money out of us because all the maintenance is covered?

I haven't had a single issue with my car. My car still tracks straight as an arrow when I let go of the wheel and tire wear is flat as can be. Most dealerships do not do their own alignments or tire changes. They send out to contracted tire shops in the area. I would call around and see if local places will do alignments on a 7 series. If not, eat it and pay the $600 because in the long run, you will spend more than that on tires if your alignment is off.

Sharif is infamous around these parts
lets just say you do need that alignment, there is absolutely NO WAY an alignment should cost that much. I had my m3 aligned at a very well respected race shop for $250.

My suggestion for you is to find a well respected independent shop and get it done there. I'm sure someone on the board can recommend a shop in your area.

$600 is highway robbery

You're being quoted dealer pricing. My suggestion would be to hit up the yellow pages and find some local European shops in town. Ask them who they recommend for BMW alignments and you'll find what you're looking for.

Thanks for the help. I figured as much. I had my GT3 aligned from a highly recommended race shop for $120. I'm calling him next. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't need some special, fancy digital alignment.

Thanks again.

Go somewhere else. My wife and I both curbed our 7 several times, not that that would blow the alignment out but no probs with 32K on the clock. Its been a pretty good car. Much better than our two previous Mercs.
