If I do it'll be this week. I test drove a couple this weekend. Can't really "test" a car with 48 miles on the engine and a sales guy with you, but I've got a rough idea.

If you read the performance graph, the car seems to have very peaky HP and the torque drops off after 5K any comments on your experience with this. Mostly in the torque tail off after 5K RPM. 1st seemed very jumpy as well...

Ever considered the Dinan 3.91 rear?

 

Haven't seen the graph, but it doesn't feel like the S54 suffers a massive dropoff at the top end. The mid-range has good usable torque. If the top end has a relative torque drop off, it doesn't appear to translate to a performance liability. For a 3.2L NA, the area under the curve feels pretty decent.

And the hp doesn't feel terribly peaky... feels like a fairly steady crescendo to the redline. Car pulls, but I wouldn't call it peaky. But, that's a subjective feel.

OK, so I pulled the trigger on a blk/blk '06 M Coupe this past weekend. Car had 2K on the clock and got it for what I think is a steal. I've got a line on a set of BMW OEM Competition (CSL style) wheels and am considering setting it up like the car pictured as the subject of this post, but I'm also considering a set of black 19" Breyton Spirits.

Anyone have any opinions or experience with either of these setups?

Congrats! Re the wheels... CSL's looks great, but appears to be the most common upgrade wheel that everyone's going to. It's a cast wheel, and isn't particularly light.

The Breyton looks great... but is super heavy. I wouldn't do these purely for that reason.

CDV removal?
Short shifter (UUC)?
Clutch & light flywheel (UUC)?
3.91 LSD (Dinan)?

I'm considering all of these but would like to hear from someone who's made the changes first. My primary concern is that the lightweight flywheel and 3.91 rear will make 1st gear useless and/or upset the balance of the car. From what I can tell, so far, its very well sorted, but I'd like to pull a little more torque out of it.

 

I would think a 3.91 LSD would be fine as I have seen more than one M3 with 4.10 gears.....CDV delete is a must in any Bimmer that has one; and as far as wheels go I definitely woud not go with the Breytons cause

A) they're heavy
B) they're ugly.....they give me the vibe of a wheel you would pick up at Pep Boys or something.

If I had that car it would be the OEM ZCP wheels in matte black; but that's just me. Car is damn sexy though and good luck with it!

Oh, I'm pretty sure the real CSLs aren't cast wheels (they're made by BBS), I think just the replicas are. If they are indeed cast though, I would look into these bad boys if you have the extra $$$ lying around:

 

 

Thanks for the feed back. The gear alone would definitely be great, I'm concerned with the combination of the shorter gear and a lightened flywheel. A shortened first gear in combination with the quick spooling nature of a lightweight flywheel might be a little much for what will primarily be a road car. Any thoughts on that?

As for the CDV...Should I just "remove" it or should I remove the guts of the valve but retain the valve itself? I know there are a ton of write ups but there are a few different opinions here.

As for the wheels, are you kidding...? I would love to throw on a set of Neez but they are definitely on the expensive side of expensive. Although a set of 19" QD-7s in Hyper Black (or Grey) with RA-1s would be SICK... :-)

NVM, they're hyper black.

 

I believe those are straight up blacked out; but you could ask Ryan from Eisenhaus to be sure. In regards to the CDV valve, Zeckhausen racing makes a replacement version with the guts removed...that's probably the best choice. I didn't take the lightened flywheel into consideration in the equation; maybe a call to Dinan would help.......regardless the car will be a blast.

Well, I'll tell you what, my wife lets me take her M CP out now and then and I have NEVER had so many people wave, stop, look and/or comment, on any car I have ever driven. So while you and I agree, we are definitely in the minority where I live.
