The car has too much going on. The E46 M3 will be hard to beat aesthetically. However, I'm guessing the brakes, suspension, and motor of this one will be superior.

It would be pretty sad if it didn't.

Btw I don't think there's much wrong bulge in the hood. Still think the E46 is the best looking M3 ever though.

REALLY? So you think this M3 is going to "Destroy" mid 12 second 1/4 mile 335i's, with the only mods being a reflash and MAYBE an exhaust system?

"Destroy" would lead me to believe it's going to be at least .5 or 1 second faster in the 1/4 mile. It damn sure won't "destroy" it 0-60.

Just playing devils advocate here... BMW opened up a big can of worms when they put twins on the 335.

335 (mildly modded, mind you) = Mid to upper 12's.
RS4 = High 12's, low 13's.
M3 = ? Tell me it's going to run mid 11's and I will laugh uncontrollably.

Yes I know, "but you're talking about a modded 335." Yeah, so what? It's still going to cost about $20g's less than a nicely equipped M3.

It would probably win in the twisties... but around town, those pesky 335's will be pissing you off all the time.

My $0.02.

One more thing.. Am I the only one who is incredibly dissapointed in the choice of wheels on this car? It reminds me of the Mustang scene, where guys would buy a brand new 2004 Cobra, and put 1995 Cobra R wheels on it.

Keep older model wheels on the older models.. newer wheels on older models, go for it. But otherwise, let them die.

that's what i was trying to get at. with a couple of simple mods, it will be equal or even greater than the M3...with a plus being a great sleeper(the sedan would at least)...

lets not forget its a V8 with 7 gears not 6... so the closer ratios mean more acceleration... and in the summer time and hot weather the M3 will blow the doors of a modded 335i because of the heat factor with turbocharged cars...

it will launch better because of better suspension and chassis and stock performance LSD and will absolutely cook in the corners...

I expect 1/4 mile times to be 12.0-12.1 with this car and a hotshoe driver... now add yourself a nice set of superspring headers and you'll pack on another 35 HP easy... lets not forget you can also tune this new V8 as well...

hey pete, what up man? i agree with you about the close gear ratios to enhance acceleration, BUT there is no chance in hell this car will run 12.0-12.1. you also have to think that the 335i coupes are already weighing in at around 3600-3700 lbs, and the m3 even if it is equal to the wieght of the 335(which it might be heavier and prob will be) that will be at least 200 lbs more. my guess is, as i have said numerous times, it will run faster than a base 997, but close to a 997S (maybe even match the performance), so my guess is 12.5-12.8@110-112 mph. given those variables and those guestimate spec, that would yield a trap of 5-7 mph faster than an average stock m3 and an ET of .5-.8 sec. that makes the most sense seeing thatit will most likely not be faster than an m5 or m6 and will certainly not trap 116 like those cars do. that will equate to a good 997S vs. m3 race, with the edge still prob going to the 997 due to lower weight, better drag and i have seen then trap as high as close to 115 mph, but most averaging about 112-114 mph.

This is why I think BMW F***ED up on their marketing.... who knows what'll come out of this v8 but it better run 12.0 - 12.1 at least if they want to keep the same M3 clientele... my .02
