It's a great car... but not an M3...

Should have been an M4-- while the M3 retained the inline six and underwent weight loss.

exactly...if Porsche can use a flat 6 for 40+ years bmw could have surely used a bigger displacement I6 and still beaten the rs4, and prob by and even greater margin than the v8 is going to.

Why spend 70K on the E92 M3?

When you can spend 33K on this...

...and 15K on performance upgrades (make it Dinan for all those who were about to say something about warranty work) and have a car that will out perform the E92 M and IMO be a better representation of what the original M3 stood for.

...and have enough money left over to buy one of these...

Plain talk: For my money - the E92 M3 design just plain sucks. The hogwash about "getting used to it" is just that - hogwash. Good design doesn't need "getting used to" or "growing on you".

It is uninspired and abandons BMW's long-held tradition of "form follows function". They have dumbed the E90/92 styling down to appeal to a wider cross-section of the public so they can sell more cars. This Pontiac-esque abortion is the result.

I know a crappy design when I see one - and this could be the poster child for the term.

No thanks.

audis designs are nice but the way they perform and drive to me suck. bmw needs audis looks and keep their performance. or they can fire that hack bangle and go back to the old school bmw. i vote for the latter.

I like it a lot - just anything but silver. It looks so boring in silver. If I got one, it'd probably be imola red or white.

i do agree tho that a good design doesnt need to grow on you...it should inspire or be love at first sight...aka e46 m3, e39 m5...

Nice post Greg. The car is growing on me too and it sounds pretty damn good.

Are they eventually going to offer this car with dual clutch?

Yes, Dinan out in '08 to make room for the factory after market bits...

...my main point remains. A modded 135i (300hp stock) should be able to out perform its $70K older brother. The 135 just looks more fun to drive...

BTW, I think the new M3 looks worlds better with those larger wheels. still not worth 70K. ...or 65.

yep...bmw's own performance parts should be a good thing as dinan isnt worth it IMO...and ive had some of it on my car. if the new m3 was 55K fully loaded it would be worth it new, but not 65-70+K. the 135i does look intriging.

I know you hate Audis, but you really need to go drive an RS4. It really is that different...
