How do you open the lid?

Probably a stupid question but how do you open the cover to see the engine? I did a search but didn't come up with anything.

I'm assuming you have a Boxster. If it's a Cayman someone else can answer.

Open the soft top about 4 or 5 inches and reach under the rear of the top on any side. You will find a cable that connects the top structure to the top mechanism. The end fitting is a ball and socket joint, just pull the socket off of the ball with an upward twisting motion (kinda like popping the top off of a bottle). Repeat for the other side. Now lift the rear of the top so that it folds up as much as possible. On top of the engine lid there will be carpeting held down with 4 large plastic 1/4 turn fasteners. Turn them 1/4 turn and remove the carpeting. THe engine lid will now be exposed and you can remove it by twisting the 6 (I think) 1/4 turn fasteners. Viola`, behold the engine in all it's glory!

There is a good writeup on caymanclub; basically, you pull up the rear carpet over the motor, remove the foam insulation panel, then there are 6? torx bolts that are removed to take off the metal engine cover.
