double-din in 986?

I was wanting to put something like the Pioneer Avic-D3 or Kenwood DNX7100 in my boxster... it *LOOKS* like you can pull out the stereo + cup holders and get a double din spot? Any tips?

Gary in BR is infamous around these parts
I have seen this done many times.
Search the 996 forum and you will see a few pictures.
Use Avic D3 as the search and you wont go wrong.

I moved my AC controls this weekend and its more of a PITA than I thought it would be. But its pretty easy.

As far as I know the 996 and 986 are identical except the 996 switches are horizontal while the 986 is at an angle. But the radios, HVAC controls many trim pieces are all interchangeable.

The older Boxsters were at a angle. 2003-2004 like mine are horizontal like the 996 switches.
