Spring rate help

I have KSport coilovers on my car 90% of the time I love them. The rest of the time they are just too hard. Tonight I was on the highway going a little over 80 and a bump in the highway made me hit my head on the roof of my car. No seatbelt on but that was a reminder to put it back on.

I looked into my options a few months ago but let it fall behind other projects. But, after tonight this is back on top of the list.

The Ksports run 300 pound springs in the front and 500 in the rear.

My options are to run softer springs. Most companies run 200ish on the front and 250ish on the rear. My other option is to purchase "helper springs" these should have come with my kit but did not.

The reason I ask this question instead of just installing the helper springs is that I only want to do this one time.

What are your opinions of what I should do? Lower the spring rate with new springs or add the helper springs?

Thanks for all your help.
Gary

Hi Gary, Did some research on your ksport, It looks like you can adjust the height of the shock tube with out changing ride height. I would start there. BTW PSS9 are 260lbs main on fronts and 515lbs mains in the rear on a 996 c2. Hope this is helpful, Tim

OK,

I am showing my lack of knowledge here. When you say adjusting the height of the shock tube do you mean changing the dampening? I have gone from hard to soft to the middle and everything in between. no combination helps.

Now if you are talking about something else when you say that I can adjust the height of the shock tube please explain that to me.

Thanks

Hi, on your set up you adjust your ride height without adjusting your preload. If you moved the preload to adjust your ride height you lower the piston in the shock tube which limits your travel. That would be the sharp jolt that makes you teeth hurt because you lost travel and are now bottoming out on the shock not the snubber. Hope this helps, Tim
