Speaker upgrades?
Speaker upgrades?
I did a search for "speaker" and came up with virtually nothing...
are the speaker setups in the 986 IDENTICAL to the 996? i thought they would but want to be sure...
i'm wanting to replace the door and the dash speakers for something that sounds better/cleaner at louder volumes...
any advice appreciated

Yep, 986 and 996 door and dash speakers should be the same.
Many people swap out MBQuart separates in the dash and mid/woofers in the door. I had this set up in my car and it was pretty nice. You'll be doing some mods to the speaker mounts to make the new, slightly bigger speakers fit.
To take advantage of the better speakers, you should also consider a new amp. The Boxster "Hi-Fi" amp doesn't put out very much good, clean power. I now have a very good quality 4X50 amp that is about 10 times mor powerful than the stock 4X40 amp.
There are quite a few 996 install pics on this site. You can also check out ppbb.com and renntech.org for more info.
