Interesting notes I found when running no exhaust

A couple of days ago I began to see just how adaptable our DME's really are.

Right before I went to visit my muffler guy, I had already removed the metal bumper cover along with the heat shielding thats connected to it as well the muffler itself. I put on whats left of the stock pipe that was flanged for me just downstream of the cats and then routed those out near the same area as the OEM muffler did.

When I first fired her up, I noticed two things. Excess fuel smell as well as the digital gas gauge plummeting at a very high rate This is bad right???

Well my boxster sounded too cool, I thought lets just take her out for a spin. While doing so I did some WOT runs and a couple of cool down runs. Car begins to smell less of gas but is fuel consumption is still in the pits.

Fast forward a few days later when I go for the last leg of my journey to my muffler guy. Trip is about 15 miles to and from. I'm worried I'm going to kill my cats due to running rich, I knew I needed to make this trip count. To my surprise fuel consumption goes back to normal and when put on the lift, the smell of unburnt fuel went away.

Cliff notes:
- Muffler is removed
- Car runs rich, owner crys
- Car learns that there is more flow now on the exhaust side
- Car figures out everything is cool and leans back out to normal again
- Faith is restored that car can definitely learn to adapt at least to very very low boost levels and be fine

Do you have the turbos installed up and running yet or still putting it together?

I can not wait until you get done this is as exciting as when my own turbo was born.

Well after working from 10-5 today at the shop, I got it to the point of being able to finally prime the turbo and oiling system and check for leaks. I'm happy to report that there are none to be found I also hooked up the boost gauge, wire up the oil pump, finish the oil feed line, and so on.

Waiting eagerly for tomorrow for him to finish the downpipe and the dump pipe for the external gate. I can't wait to turn it on and hear that bov do the vroooom pshhhhh noise
